Air Duct Cleaning Alexandria VA
SV Professional Cleaning
Over time, dust, dirt, and pollen, along with unhealthy mold and fungi, can get into the HVAC system and travel through your air ducts. Your air ducts act as the circulatory system of your home, providing the passageways for air to flow. So, if your ducts haven’t been cleaned lately, you could be breathing contaminated air.
Proper duct cleaning can make a big difference in your indoor air quality. However, if the process is rushed or not efficiently done, there is a chance of leaving dust and dirt behind, continuing to allow irritants to spread throughout your home.
Not only that but dirty ducts also cost large bucks. The dirtier your air ducts are, the higher your energy costs as it is much harder on your HVAC system to push air through those ac ducts. In fact, the cost of cleaning your air ducts can be defrayed considerably in savings on your energy bill alone (not to mention less trips to the doctor).
Heard enough? Ready to stop poor indoor air quality in its tracks? Then it’s time to get the best air duct cleaning Alexandria VA has to offer. Get SV Professional Cleaning.
At SV Professional Cleaning we have the knowledge and experience to perform the best duct cleaning service possible, eliminating the contaminants in your ductwork. Our experienced team of air duct cleaning specialists take great pride in thoroughly and carefully removing even the most stubborn buildup from your ductwork. By using industry-leading techniques, the latest technology and the most effective methods, you can be assured that you and your family are breathing fresh, clean air and that your energy bills will go down.
Mold And Other Health Hazards
When your ductwork is not clean, dust and dirt aren’t the only irritants flowing through your ducts, pollen is another culprit that can spread through your ducts and circulate in your home. Pollen can wreak havoc on those with allergies, asthma, or other respiratory disorders.
Moisture presents another problem that can affect the HVAC ducts. Moist air ducts are a breeding ground for mold, mold spores and fungi. The inhalation of these contaminants can trigger asthma attacks, as well as allergic reactions like rashes, itchy eyes and upper respiratory distress.
At SV Professional Cleaning we will not only clean and remove these pollutants, we will also find and address the source of the problem to prevent future growth, leaving you with complete, 100% clean air ducts.
Signs It Is Time To Clean Your Air Ducts
Air ducts typically need cleaning once every two years or if you have severe allergies even once a year. Here are some common signs that it is time to clean your ducts.
- After a dusty remodel or renovation
- The presence of mold around your vents or system
- Increased allergies
- Excessive household dust, especially around the vents, and return cover
- Recent water damage or flood that impacted your ductwork

What we did:
When you purchase a home, you don’t know what you are getting when it comes to air ducts and air quality. These customers had purchased their home just two years ago and didn’t know the condition of their air ducts, but they were reasonably sure they had never been cleaned. To get peace of mind, they called SV Professional Cleaning to clean their air ducts and dryer vents to ensure they had the best air quality possible for their home.
As cleaning contracts go, this one was straightforward, at least at first glance. Access to the vent system was in the basement, so the vent cleaning was relatively easy. As part of our standard vent cleaning procedure, we checked the vents throughout the house and sealed them to ensure we had sufficient negative air pressure pressure (suction) to clean the system properly.
While inspecting the vents, we also noticed that the blower was quite dirty, indicating that the vents had probably never been cleaned. After some discussion with the homeowners, we added cleaning the blower to the contract so the customer could be assured of a totally clean ventilation system.
While the vent cleaning was straightforward, cleaning the dryer vents was another issue. The dryer vent ran through the wall and behind the ceiling to the outside exhaust, which meant threading the cleaning tool through the vent to clean it. One of the occupational hazards of air duct cleaning is you can’t always foresee obstacles in your path. When we went to clean the dryer vent, the cleaning tool became lodged in the ductwork.
When it became clear that we couldn’t remove the tool, we started tracing the vent to find the source of the problem. That required cutting holes in the wall and opening parts of the ceiling to access the ductwork. Finally, we were able to remove the cleaning tool successfully, reassemble the ducts, and finish the dryer vent cleaning job.
There was no way to tell what caused the tool to become jammed. There could have been an existing obstruction, the vent may have been stretched, or the tool could have become lodged as part of the cleaning process – it does happen occasionally. However, since we were the ones cleaning the dryer vent, we naturally assumed responsibility. We have contractors available when needed, and we called them in to repair the ceiling and the drywall the same day. Of course, we did not charge the customer for any of the repair work.
By keeping the homeowners informed and ensuring the job was done correctly, including any repair work, we were able to complete the cleaning job without further incident. The homeowners were happy with the result and confident that the vents in their home were now clean.

What we did:
This customer was a new homeowner looking to have the air ducts cleaned thoroughly before using the HVAC system. Overall, this job was regular, with nothing special to note. We began at the top, in the attic, by cleaning the air vents. You want to begin at the top so you can push the dirt from the system’s top down towards the vacuum. Additionally, vents get the most thorough cleaning from the attic. Cleaning them from the room prevents you from getting specific vent areas, leaving them partially dirty.
We pointed out the junction box to the client and explained what it was and why it needs occasional attention. Because we wanted to clean the junction box, we had to disconnect some lines to ensure we could get inside each line to complete the cleaning. We discussed what encapsulation would do for the junction box as well.
After the air duct cleaning was completed, we offered a dryer vent cleaning. It is a good thing that he agreed because this particular dryer vent was exceptionally dirty. But we got it cleaned up to help prevent a fire.
From start to finish, the HVAC cleaning took approximately three hours. However, with the extra services provided, like the dryer vent cleaning and painting of the junction box, brought the total time up to approximately five hours.
We explained our process as we worked through each issue. This customer may have called only for a duct cleaning, but professionals know what to look for. So we were able to point out additional issues that needed addressing to prevent significant problems in his home. Many homeowners don’t know the routine things that need to be done in a home to prevent fires, mold, and other issues.
Customer Feedback:
We just bought the house, and the air ducts looked like they hadn’t been cleaned in a while. After completing a Google search and narrowing down our choices, we chose SV Professional Cleaning because the reviews were more positive. We spoke with Stan and verified that he had certification in air duct cleaning.
SV Professional Cleaning has higher prices than other HVAC companies, but with it being our first time having a duct cleaning, we wanted to know that it was done right. We wanted to know that we’d be inviting a knowledgeable individual into our home to complete a valuable service for us.
Getting our appointment schedule was easy with a simple phone call. Stan scheduled the appointment over the phone and was able to get us in on a Saturday. On the day of the appointment, he arrived promptly and explained his process.
Stan brought another member of his team over to assist him with the service, which began with an initial inspection. He wanted to do this so he knew where everything was. Stan took his time and went above and beyond by showing us a few things that we weren’t aware of. He asked if we wanted an additional service, the dryer vent cleaning, while he was already at our home.
Stan identified some other things with the ventilation system that he recommended get repaired or it could cause the material to degrade and spread potentially hazardous material throughout our home.
After having Stan in our home completing an air duct cleaning, we learned that this service is a routine maintenance necessity that will help keep the air you breathe safe and free from dirt and dust. Throughout the appointment, he was very communicative and explained where he was in the process.

What we did:
We have worked with this customer in the past, completing carpet and upholstery cleaning for him. He’s a new home-owner and has lived in this house for nine months, so he decided it was time to do a full inspection and cleaning of the air duct system.
Overall, this job was simple, but we ran into a few issues with the home throughout the process. This was a full and complete air duct cleaning which also includes an inspection of the entire system.
Their top floor contained air vents on the ceiling, which signals to us that there is ductwork going into the attic. When we see this, we also go into the attic to clean the ducts and make sure everything is thoroughly inspected and find out if additional services are needed.
During our inspection of the attic, we discovered that several flexible vents either weren’t aligned properly, were bent, or were missing altogether. We asked the customer if he had been experiencing any heating or cooling issues upstairs, and he confirmed that he had.
He explained that there wasn’t enough airflow coming from the vents, and the upstairs of his home either wasn’t cooling enough or wasn’t heating enough. On top of this, there was insulation missing from around the vents, which presented an added issue in terms of airflow. Because all of the air vents were bent in the attic, the airflow to the vents was restricted, so the customer’s feedback made sense.
Also during our inspection, we found a bird’s nest in one of the air vents. It’s not uncommon for us to find bird nests and even squirrels in dryer vents, as those aren’t always covered from the outdoors. Finding a bird’s nest inside the house and inside a vent was definitely a first for us, though.
This nest made it incredibly challenging to clean thoroughly due to all of the debris that was involved in building the nest. Because of this, we recommended that our customer replace this vent altogether. There isn’t any way for us to guarantee it could be totally and fully cleaned otherwise.
Furthermore, there is so much bacteria that can be left behind from the birds, and with no way of knowing for sure that all of this is gone, replacing it is the best option. There is also no way of ensuring the birds will not come back since they found their way into this vent, to begin with. Replacing the vent would eliminate all of these problems.
Another issue we discovered on the lower level of the home was discovery of holes in the gas exhaust pipes. These pipes are supposed to lead outside so that exhaust isn’t getting trapped in the home. In a few areas, there were holes that indicated exhaust leaks that were absolutely circulating throughout the home, which is not safe. We recommended an HVAC company for the customer to call to rectify this issue, which he did, right away.
Due to the ongoing relationship we have with this customer, he trusted us and the work we did without asking any questions. We made sure to inform him every time we ran into an issue and educated him on our findings every step of the way. He was fully aware, top to bottom, of our entire process while we were there. He also trusted our recommendations and felt comfortable enough to take all of them.

What we did: The customer had just bought his home and wanted a fresh start with his air ducts. In fact, we cleaned his air ducts and then right after, we cleaned his carpets for him as well.
For this customer’s air duct system, we had a particular challenge. A challenge that can end up with air duct cleaning companies not cleaning this type of system properly.
Depending on the size of your home and how many levels it has, your air duct system can have a few main “trunk” lines. These “trunk” lines feed air to different levels of the house. The more trunk lines there are, the more difficult the air duct cleaning can be. Furthermore, if there are vents in the attic, this makes the cleaning even more complicated. The main trunk line splits into branches that go to certain rooms. To split from the main trunk line to the branches there are so called “junction boxes”. When cleaning air ducts, an air duct cleaner cannot get past the junction boxes to the main line from the room they are in. They must unhook from where they are and go to the attic. If they don’t, the side opposite of your junction box doesn’t get cleaned and remains dirty. The air duct cleaning job is really only halfway done.
Many air duct cleaning companies will clean the top level until the junction box and then stop, again, leaving the other side dirty. Part of the reason for this is some air duct cleaning companies’ knowledge just isn’t sufficient for the job. They hit the junction box and truly believe the cleaning is done. The other side is that some just don’t want to take the extra time to do the extra work in the attic. Why? Because it means taking extra time but also because it’s difficult. An attic presents a lot of issues. First, it’s incredibly hot. You’re under a black roof, with no ventilation, no AC, etc. And if it’s in the summer with 95 degrees Fahrenheit outside, inside the attic is much, much hotter! Beyond the heat itself, the cleaner must also wear a respirator mask to filter out the fiberglass particles from the insulation, which makes it even hotter and more uncomfortable. Finally, it gets so hot the cleaner can only be in the attic for 30 minutes and then they need to come down, cool off, and then go back up, which means it takes a lot of extra time. These factors make the job more difficult and that’s why many air duct cleaners won’t do it, even though that is what is required for a thorough job if you have this type of system.
So, this client had 2 main lines and one of them was in the attic. We cleaned both lines. While cleaning the vents on the upper level, we hit the junction box, unhooked, and then went up to the attic and cleaned the other side. After that, we finished the second main line and the vents that come from it as well resulting in a thoroughly cleaned air duct system.
Overall, we have to do this type of duct cleaning often. Any time we do, there is an immense level of pride and satisfaction that comes from a job like this because we know we’re completing the job the way it should be done, giving our customers’ what they pay for, and enhancing the quality of life of our customers by making sure they’re breathing, fresh, clean air.

What we did: We arrived at the home and the customer had used us before to clean his carpets so he was familiar with us. We got right to work and sealed all the ducts to help increase the suction from our machine. When we use the portable negative air machine we hook it to the supply line and suck the air through the main line and also through all of the vents. Sealing all the vents but one increases the suction tremendously and makes the air duct cleaning process much cleaner. So, we went from vent to vent, cleaning each one. After the vents, we then tackled the main trunk line. The vents are always dirty of course but the main trunk line is typically the dirtiest. We scrubbed the main trunk line with our rotary brush to get them nice and clean, which is our typical procedure. We scrubbed until we were satisfied with how clean the main trunk line was. Then, we went over it again one more time with compressed air and air whips just to make sure we got it as spotless as possible. We did this same process with the return. We also cleaned the blower and air handler as well. We checked the air handler until also, which is important because you may have clean air and clean ducts after we’re done but if the air handler is dirty it will push dirt right back into your air ducts. We are very thorough. Luckily, the coils in his air handler were clean and didn’t need any further work from us, which saved him some money. We also offered to encapsulate the insulation inside of the intake. The customer wanted to do this as well but at a later date, which was perfectly fine. The project took us a total of 4 hours. We were very pleased with the outcome of the job and the customer was as well.
Customer Feedback: “So, I’ve used Stan before. He has done my carpets 3 times, now he has done my ducts and he is the absolute consummate professional, very efficient, very fair and he knows his business. I knew I wanted to get my air ducts cleaned because they’ve never been done and I looked in my ducts and saw a massive amount of dust around the bigger openings whether it was the one that pulls the air from the first floor or just the main driver of the air. I also knew our house was built in 1984 and felt confident it had never been done. When Stan got to work he was pulling stuff out of there, sand, pebbles, etc. and we had also done renovations so there was a lot of grit and grime in there as well that was coming across the ducts, you could just hear it. And Stan just absolutely killed it. The guy was there for 4.5 hours on a Friday night. The reason I brought him back to do the air duct cleaning is because he did the same thing with the rugs. The guy is just phenomenal man. And I knew he did air duct cleaning because he did my carpets back in August and I saw on the side of his truck that he had an air duct cleaning service and I said to him, “Hey Stan, what do you think?” and he took a look at my system and said, “Yeah, it would be a good idea. When you get ready for it just let me know.” I didn’t ask the price but I didn’t have to, I trust him, I knew he’d be fair. I found him originally through Google. He just got top marks on local reviews and I also like his system. You just go online and you schedule it and he called me back in 30 minutes. Something that was also important to me was he told me he was fully certified. He said a lot of people that do ducts are not actually a part of the National Air Duct Cleaners Association. They are not fully certified, bonded or insured, things like that. That’s another reason why I went with him. This guy has done carpets in my house, duct cleaning in the house, he is trustworthy, he is efficient, and a consummate professional and I’d go back to him in a heartbeat and I would highly recommend him to anybody.”
Job: Air Duct Cleaning & Dryer Vent Cleaning
Date: 11/2/20
Customer Name: Nick S
Location: Alexandria, VA 22314
What we did: The customer was a returning customer from carpet cleaning so we already had a rapport with him. He let us right in. He is located on the 5th floor of an apartment complex. That can make accessing our air duct cleaning equipment difficult but we’re professionals. We’re prepared for any situation. I was able to use my air compressor by parking in the back where his balcony was and then ran the hoses all the way up to the 5th floor. Upon inspection the air handler unit was very dirty, especially the blower. There was an HVAC company that had come out the week before and I was surprised they had not cleaned the system since it was so dirty. I mentioned to the client there was also some insulation inside and I recommend we encapsulate (seal) it. He requested us to go ahead and do that. We then cleaned the entire system, the air handler and encapsulated the insulation. At the end, his air duct system was completely clean. We of course vacuumed his apartment as we do after each air duct cleaning job. Sometimes air duct cleaning can get messy so we make sure that we leave the client’s home as clean as possible.
What was really interesting about this job was the access (or lack of). Being on the 5th floor can be tricky. You can use a portable air compressor for the job but it’s just not as powerful as a truck mounted air compressor. Ideally, you always want to use the truck mounted air compressor because it’s going to do the best job of cleaning the air ducts. However, that can be difficult because while the client is on the 5th floor, your compressor is on the ground. But because we have the proper professional equipment, we were able to make sure we could reach the 5th floor, even with our truck mounted air compressor.
Customer Feedback: “The air duct cleaning went very well. I had used SV Professional cleaning before for my carpets when I was moving out of a place. At that place, I just needed someone to get in quick and clean the carpets. I went to Google, searched, found Stan and signed up with him immediately. He was prompt and professional. After moving into my new place & after seeing some of the aspects of the unit that hadn’t been taken care of, I realized there’s no telling how long it had been since the air ducts or the dryer vent had been cleaned so I might as well get it done. Air quality is really important to me. I knew Stan provided air duct cleaning as well so I went to his website and made the reservation through the scheduler. Stan called me back to confirm the nature of the place, the condo, what floor, to confirm what kind of equipment he was going to be bringing in terms of the truck mounted compressor or the portable compressor, etc. and to also explain all of the nuances about his service.
We agreed on a time, he kept me apprised that morning of when he was coming. It was taking a little bit longer at his previous location but it was still fine for me because I set aside pretty much as much time as I needed. He came in & he had one guy working with him. Both he and that guy were extremely careful about cleanliness, about making sure that they didn’t damage anything when they were moving things around. Stan explained to me what he was doing.
He also, then, did me the favor of when he was inside the furnace, asking whether I’d had the furnace serviced and looking at that and pointing out that the inside of the furnace needed to be cleaned and saying, “Look this isn’t a service that I normally provide but…” and after talking through it, I tried to call the company that had done my furnace service and they hadn’t even told me about any of this. Stan said, “Look I can probably do some of this. It’s just if I have to really disassemble things, I don’t want to go there.” I said, well, okay, tell you what, Stan, you know professionally what you can do and what you’re not comfortable doing, so why don’t you do as much as you can and if it’s something you end up not being comfortable with, then I’ll stop. And he ended up doing everything that needed to be done because it turned out to be easier than he had thought.
They packed up and left. He kept me informed of what the cost was going to be when I asked for the extra cleaning of the furnace, and everything was done perfectly. They did a good job, not only in the servicing but also in cleaning up afterwards. I looked inside the filter and saw the amount of stuff that he took out. That’s always interesting. Gave me a much better feeling about why this work needs to be done to be to begin with.”
